Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect during my first massage?
Your session begins with a brief conversation to review your intake form, discuss your health history, and clarify your goals for the massage. This is also a great time to ask any questions and let me know about any areas you'd like to focus on or avoid.
Once we've created a plan for your session, I'll step out of the room so you can undress to your comfort level and get settled on the massage table in complete privacy. During this time, I'll wash my hands and prepare for your treatment.
Soft, calming music will be playing to help you relax. Before beginning the massage, I'll make sure you're comfortable and ask for your permission to start.
At the end of your session, I'll step out of the room again while you get dressed. Once you're ready, we'll finish with a brief check-in to discuss how you're feeling, review any findings from your session, and I'll recommend simple movements, stretches, or self-care techniques to help you maintain the benefits of your massage between appointments.
What do I wear during the massage?
You should undress only to your level of comfort. For a full body massage, many clients choose to fully undress, while others prefer to leave their underwear on. The choice is entirely yours.
Before your massage begins, I'll leave the room to give you complete privacy to undress and get comfortable on the massage table. Throughout your session, you'll be professionally draped with a sheet at all times, and only the area being worked on will be uncovered. Your comfort, privacy, and consent are always my top priorities.
What do I do during the massage?
The goal is to have you as relaxed as possible. You are welcome to move if a position is uncomfortable. I will check in with you during the massage to ensure you like the pressure I am using and adjust your position on the table as needed for maximum comfort. Your feedback is encouraged, I like to keep communication open at all times. Most people will close their eyes and focus on their breath. I will encourage you to do whatever feels natural and most comfortable for you.
What if I experience an emotional release during our session?
Massage therapy can sometimes bring unexpected emotions to the surface. As your body relaxes and long held tension begins to ease, you may notice feelings such as sadness, joy, relief, frustration, or gratitude. Some clients laugh, cry, sigh deeply, or simply feel a profound sense of calm. These responses are all normal and can be a natural part of the healing process.
If an emotional release occurs during your session, you're welcome to express whatever you're experiencing in a way that feels safe and comfortable for you. I'll provide a supportive, nonjudgmental space while respecting your boundaries and comfort level.
You are always in control of your session. If you'd like to pause, adjust the massage, spend more time with what you're experiencing, or simply continue in silence, we'll follow what feels right for you. My role is to support your experience with compassion, professionalism, and respect so you can leave feeling more connected, relaxed, and at ease.
How long can I expect the entire appointment to be?
If you book a 90-minute massage, you will have a full 90-minutes of massage on the table. I will keep track of the start and end times. Opening and closing check-ins are typically 5-10 minutes.
How can I expect to feel after my massage?
Most people experience deep relaxation. You may feel drowsy or get a burst of energy. You may experience a heightened sense of awareness, and relief from previous areas of pain. It is important to stay hydrated before and after your massage. I encourage my clients to rest after receiving a massage in order to feel the full effects.
How often should I get a massage?
Generally it takes about 48 hours for the body to rebalance after a deep massage. I see some of my clients once a week and others once a month. After your first massage I can recommend a frequency and duration that works best for your needs.
